Removing humidity is well understood but adding a unit to create humidity is often neglected. Maintaining optimal range of 60 to 65% humidity in your wine cellar is more difficult to control than it might seems. If a long period of heat create a low level of humidity in your geographic area for a prolonged time it might affect the level of humidity in your wine cellar. But most often it is a problem resulting of actively cooling your wine cellar that reduces the humidity levels in the process. Consequently, adding a humidifier or choosing a cooling unit with an integrated humidifier will protect your investment.

The reason behind the humidity control is because wine bottles are sealed with a natural cork. The cork will expand or shrink depending on the humidity level. The shrinking of the cork causes too much air entering the bottle and oxide the wine. Too much humidity will result with mold on the corks, the walls, ceiling...

Make sure you use the appropriate humidifier for the size of your room or by trying too hard to keep the level of humidity you might create too much condensation.

Proper humidity is too often ignored when addressing the subject of wine room conditioning options. The fact is that humidity levels in your wine cellar are just as important as those of temperature to the long term health of your wine!

Ninety percent of the time it will be necessary to add humidity to your wine room in order to maintain the important 60-65% relative humidity level. Low humidity levels, even for part of the year, may result in compromised seals and oxidized wine.

Wine Guardian
Wine Guardian humidifiers are currently available for ductable systems as either free-standing and integrated units. The free-standing version can be used with any wine cellar air conditioning system, while the integrated version must be mounted to a Wine Guardian system. Both types are designed to increase humidity levels in commercial or residential wine cellars of all types and sizes.

Wine Guardian offers several models of both Ducted and new "Through-the-Wall" systems, each constructed from the highest quality components and designed to deliver optimal temperature and humidity control.
